Another person who contacted me during the week was Richard Shafer, director of Global Economic Outreach (GEO). He says, "As I have traveled to and worked in various nations I have seen time and again situations where missionaries need help with a computer problem or have a question on agriculture, nutrition, or hygiene. Often it's a time-consuming and difficult process to find someone with an answer. Global Economic Outreach was founded to address these situations. A new aspect of our service are the GEO Online Forums - a set of 180 forums covering a wide range of missionary topics. The service is provided at no charge and regular use of the forums will help bring missionaries and professionals together in a united effort, sharing information and building a searchable knowledge base for others." To find out more, visit the web site above.

It is proving to be a great resource. Responding to feedback, the folks at GEO have added an email-only interface. Now, workers with expensive or unreliable Internet service can take advantage of GEO's services. If you fall into this category send an email to Index@teamgeo.org and you will receive an automated response (1KB) with more information. If you require secure email send an email to Smalltalk@teamgeo.org and you will receive an automated response (1KB) detailing how to communicate with GEO securely. This auto response is not encrypted but contains no sensitive language. Workers with good Internet service should interface with GEO through their web site (see above).

Many missionaries lack reliable and inexpensive Internet service. So, GEO is introducing a new "e-mail only" interface to our services. Most missionaries can start by sending an e-mail to Index@teamgeo.org . An automatic response will be sent with more information.

Those requiring secure e-mail can send an email to Smalltalk@teamgeo.org . You will receive an automated response containing no sensitive material - just information on establishing future communication.

For security, GEO uses HushMail.com. Registered HushMail users (it's free!) can send encrypted e-mail to Auto201338@hushmail.com .

Volunteers Needed. Craftsman, hobbyists, artisans, and professionals are needed to answer questions missionaries face. Register with GEO by clicking on the GEO Registry and GEO Online Forums links. Whether your skill is driving or dairy farming, cabinetmaking or crocheting, forestry or finance, we need your help - normally by Internet. Participation is free and there's never any obligation. Please join!

Spread the word. Help us network with others. We need contacts with businesses, churches, mission agencies, and field personnel. Your help could make a large difference in someone's life. Contact us at the address below.
