KACWM DAGESTAN From: Global Prayer Dgest, Aug 29, 1995, forwarded by Mardi Smith "The Dagestani peoples are fascinating!" commented Jim in a letter to his friends in the United States. Then writing about the video he had just finished editing, he said, "With God's help I was able to cover certain aspects of the people's lives, such as their traditional dances, farming, rug making, seances, and praying in the world's third oldest mosque. I believe the video will inspire the church to pray with a greater focus on reaching these 2,000,000 unreached people with the gospel of Jesus Christ..."--PD If you would like to order this video, contact the Korean-American Center for World Mission at (818) 398-2405. The cost is $10.00 They also have a prayer guide available for $2.50.
Korean Amercian Center for World Mission

The purpose of the Korean American Center for World Mission is to
encourage the Korean American Christian community to help make disciples of all the ethne (peoples), as Jesus commanded in Matthew 28:18-20.
Today, many Korean mission leaders feel that in order to do this, the
focus must be on the unreached people groups. And among Korean
Americans, more people, both young and old, are interested in reaching
the unreached than was ever true before. KACWM forms an integral part of
this effort by providing various ministries which make available helpful
information and suggest effective strategies which Korean American
Christians might use to complete the task. As part of this effort, KACWM
sends research teams of Korean Americans overseas, and other teams
throughout the U.S. to mobilize the churches and students.

"Possibly no other project can have greater impact directly or
indirectly than a full-time information center such as the Korean
American Center for World Mission."
-Ralph D. Winter,
founder and General Director of the USCWM

God has blessed the Korean church in North America. And it's our turn to
bless the nations. As there are some 2800 Korean churches in North
America, it is our vision and our purpose to mobilize the Korean church
in North America in joining the global movement of reaching the
unreached people groups. We have translated the Perspectives course into
Korean and it is in local Korean churches. We have research expedition
programs and traveling team ministries. We do consultations and visit
churches to help out with their missions policies and mobilization
efforts.

THE KUI OF THAILAND -- An unreached people group in Thailand's
Northeast region (Isaan), the over 500,000 Kui do not know Christ. They
are most known for their elephant hunting abilities. Less than 10
villages have Christians, leaving hundreds more with no witness to the
Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Kui are animistic in religion and culture,
yet Thailand's national religion, Buddhism, is instrumental in keeping
the Kui blind from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. In Jesus'
name, pray for victory in the spiritual battle where the Kui are
engulfed with animistic beliefs and the entrapment of Buddhism. Please
pray for the production of a Jesus Film in the Kui language. Remember
Kui Christians and pray that they would fervently share their faith,
despite criticism. For more information email Edward at

MF Behind the Scenes
by Rick Wood, Managing Editor

Mission Frontiers Gets a New Web Site

After many months of planning and work, Mission Frontiers has its own
web site, complete with articles covering the last five years.
Eventually it will have all of the timeless articles ever written for
Mission Frontiers. Below is a listing of just a few of the things that
you can do when you set your web browser to www.missionfrontiers.org.
Locate hundreds of articles on many different subjects from 1994 to
the present. We have dozens of links to some of the best research tools and information on unreached peoples.
Download articles that you would like to read offline.
Link to hundreds of mission resources and mission agencies.
Locate what you need to get involved in the frontier mission movement.

The new Mission Frontiers web site, along with that of the U.S. Center
and its other ministries will be downloaded and placed on a new CD-ROM
being produced by the AD2000 and Beyond Movement. This new CD will
contain a treasure chest of mission resources from many organizations
and will be sold along with the new book on Praying Through the Window
IV that YWAM is now in the process of producing. It is expected that
over 50,000 copies of this book and CD will be sold as we approach
this October 1999 global prayer event. Pray that God will use this
opportunity to spread a passion for the unreached peoples. Be on the
lookout for this book and CD in the coming months. And do check out
the new MF web site at www.missionfrontiers.org. Let us know what you
think. We will be continually improving and upgrading this site as
time goes on. Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

The New Perspectives Revision

In this issue of Mission Frontiers we feature two articles on pages 20
and 30 from the latest edition of the book, Perspectives on the World
Christian Movement. This 782-page whopper of a book, with 124 chapters
is the finest single guide to the world of missions today. The book is
hot off the press with 60 new or extensively revised articles. It is
well worth the reading whether you have taken the Perspectives course
and read the previous editions or not. I encourage you to order your
copy of the new Perspectives book now from William Carey Library using
the order form on page 49 or call 1-800- MISSION. The item number is
WCL289-1 and it's available for just $21.00.

For His Glory,

Welcome to Mission Media!

Mission Media Productions, Inc., is a not-for-profit ministry that
serves missionaries both afield and at home. Utilizing our spiritual
gifts, we do this by producing videos for and about them, becoming their
"link" to their supporters as they do the Lord's work. Our Mission
Statement probably says it best:

MMPI exists to inform individuals and churches of the activities,
successes, problems and needs of missionaries throughout the world,
primarily through the medium of video.

Our ministry's goal is for every missionary to be able to have their own
video explaining to all the world what they do, and what their needs
are. To this end, we have equipped MMPI with industrial-grade JVC
editing equipment and a state-of-the-art Video Toaster system. We can
produce from concept to finished duplicates. We both tape on-site and
edit in-house for complete ministry support and service.
As a ministry, we rely on the support of individuals and churches for
our day-to-day expenses. This allows us to provide our services without
charge for our time, asking only reimbursment for out-of-pocket expenses
for both video productions and duplicate tapes. See our Policies page
for details.

We have about 30 available videos, and our list is growing. These are
available for your use.

Independent Review: Firm Foundations: Creation to Christ. We do praise the Lord for their zeal to carry the Gospel to those who have not heard and we want to mention the following excellent item which can be very helpful in working with people either in English or other languages who do not have a Bible background. It is "Firm Foundations: Creation to Christ" and is
available in English, Russian, Spanish, Albanian, and other languages.
There are 50 lessons designed for a one-year course, but included is a
plan for teaching in a shorter period of time if so desired. The
teacher's manual includes three 17" X 22" color maps and one 17" X 66"
color chart of the Bible events covered. The lessons begin with creation
and follow God's revelation of the Gospel progressively through the
Bible, highlighting key themes. The standard edition is designed for
adults and teens. There is also a Children's Edition for younger ages,
and the 50 lessons in the Children's Edition parallel those in the adult
edition. This course can be used very effectively in North American
churches as a Sunday School class for people from other parts of the
world who speak English as a second language. Many of these people are
open to hearing about the Bible and Jesus Christ, but they often are
confused by the standard preaching and teaching at churches because they
don't understand even the basics of Bible truth. Fundamental Baptist
missionary friend John O'Brien gives the following testimony of the
Russian edition of the 'Firm Foundations' course: "There is a
comprehensive Chronological Gospel book ('Firm Foundations: Creation to
Christ') in Russian being printed by New Tribes Mission. I've examined
the book personally at length and have found it to be sound. We plan on
using the book for discipleship for new converts. We've found
this particular book a rare gem due to it's thoroughness in presenting
the necessary principles of the Gospel: God's Holiness, Man's Sinful
Depravity, Consequences of Sin, Promise of the Redeemer, Substitutionary
Atonement, Salvation by God's grace."

The Taliabo Story
The Taliabo people search for eternal life.
Hidden on a remote island of Indonesia, the Taliabo people lived in
constant fear. For generations they searched for the key to eternal life,
which they believed their ancestors took with them then they "left" the
island. Although the Taliabo searched in earnest, they were always
defeated by the thing they feared most--death. This is the story of their
search, and how they finally found the key to everlasting life. 35

Open Doors has produced a video called "Behind the Sun". It is an excellent presentation of the problems that national believers in Muslim countries are facing. The video chronicles the adventures/trials of a man returning to his home (Muslim) country after converting to Christianity during his college days in the US. It is about 1 hour long, and is extremely well done (I've heard over 1 million was spent to make the video). Although the man's story is fictional (I think), the events/ situations that he encounters are not - according to those familiar with the middle-east. I highly recommend this video. It is both informative and exciting. Available from Open Doors, P.O. Box 27001, Santa Ana, CA 92799 714-531-6000 800-788-5574 [I just called Open Doors about this and discovered that this movie is available only as a film (i.e. not a video) which can be loaned to a church group, and must be accompanied by Open Doors' literature which follows up on the film.

7. AUDIO MISSIONS PROGRAMS (IN SPANISH) TO GO -- In August of 1997, C.E.T., International and the Bible Society of Bolivia began a joint venture in producing professional audio missions programs in Spanish, called (NMM) EL NOTICIERO MISIONERO MUNDIAL (The World Missionary News). The program objective is to inform, challenge, and motivate the Latin Church to missions action. The program format is 3-minutes of the following:
>>unreached people group profiles, with their folkloric music in background; statistics; interviews with Latin missionaries in World A; persecuted church information; legislation that will affect missions, upcoming missions events; bi-vocational opportunities; various other missions news. There are 14 programs produced per month, and to date, 183 programs have been produced and are available. These programs are being used in 8 Latin American countries on over 50 radio stations. COMIBAM, International joins with CET, International and Bible Society in 1999 to begin expanding this ministry to the continent. Another goal of the NMM for 1999 is to put images to the 3-minute missions programs for TV use. CET and Bible Society subsidize the program so Spanish broadcasts can obtain these monthly cassettes of 14 programs at mailing cost only. Contact CET for details by email: <cetintl@pino.cbb.entelnet.bo> or by snail mail at Casilla 5588, Cochabamba, Bolivia or by fax: 011-591-4-245523. Address correspondence to Paul Confer, Vice-Director CET, International.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BE? (GenX peice by TEAM) TEAM has a brand-new15-minute video that I saw a couple of weeks ago, and I highly recommend it! It is designed to challenge college students to consider missions as a career. (It'll work well with groups a little older or younger than the college crowd, too.) The quality of the video is excellent--the kind of video work that young people are accustomed to seeing on T.V., and it gives a very appropriate challenge that is inspiring rather than guilt-inducing. What makes this even better is that, although TEAM produced it, they don't mention TEAM until the tag at the end; making this video usable for a mission mobilizer in any organization! To get a copy, email Glen Felty <GFelty@TEAMworld.org>--TEAM is giving this video out for free, but I think it only appropriate that we pay TEAM for this tool if we use it to recruit for another mission agency.

The new 14-minute video, "A HOPE AND A FUTURE FOR BOSNIA," is turning into one of the most popular yet! This new look at "a cauldron of conscience" is organized in 5 major sections (in case you want to use it across 5 different meetings): Introduction, History, Situation, Challenge, and Testimony.
With this one video and the tons of actual on-site footage, you'll finally figure out what has happened there and how desperately that we need to pray. The producer, Dave Dunlap, worked in audio and video for NBC television for over 10 years. He still freelances regularly for CNN and documentaries like _20/20_ and _60 Minutes_. Digitally processed from start to finish, this Bosnia work is top quality for viewing or projecting to your family, at your local church, or in your mission office, regardless of continent or color. If you're ordering the tape for a particular showing, please note your deadline. Don't forget to add $3 shipping (unless you can pick up the tape in person). Through the Bible Publishers has just released DiscipleLand, a new
children's Bible curriculum for the elementary years. It is the first major
curriculum to integrate missions issues throughout its training; it also
addresses critical issues related to Biblical literacy in the church.
DiscipleLand is useful for Sunday schools, Christian schools, and home
schools. The teacher guides come with beautiful "Hidden People Profiles"
that include full-page, full-color photographs of such groups as the Sherpa
of Nepal, the Punjabi of Kenya, and the Balinese of Indonesia. These
profiles are designed to build a heart for the world into the hearts of
kids - through information, prayer points, activities, pictures, and maps.

Catch, Build and Fulfill

A Vision for World Evangelization!

A vision for world evangelization doesn't just happen. It must first be
introduced (Catch the Vision), then nurtured (Build the Vision) and
finally brought to full maturity (Fulfill the Vision). The following US
Center for World Mission resources have been designed to facilitate this
process.

Catch the Vision!

World-View Video Library - Assorted popular and high quality videos
chosen for wide audience appeal as well as their ability to impart
mission vision.

open eyes and hearts to the remaining task.

your choice to see an indigenous church planting movement started among
an unreached people group and be a part of an international thrust to
finish the Great Commission! All that is needed to introduce AAP to your
church mission team/committee, elders and the entire congregation.

Doing Your Bit - Contained in the Advocates Kit, this excellent video
creatively shares the adoption concept and drives home the point that we
can reach the nations soon if we all "do our bit".
There is a very good 10 minutes long video designed to explain unreached and adopt-a-people.

Group - Also contained in the Advocates Kit, this new and improved

MAKE A DIFFERENCE: Mobilizing Your Church to New Mission Vision From: William Stearns <73502.3126@compuserve.com> A bunch of us did a quick videotaping at the close of Chicago's ACMC conference. Larry Wright of Proclamedia is in his final editing phase, and I'll be finishing the accompanying manual next week. "Make a Difference " is basically a four-session training package for mobilizers. If a church can't attend a "What's After October?" Seminar, this package gives them about the same thing. It keys them into the basic, resource- matched steps of moving a fellowship into intelligent activism. I think Larry was saying the package price will be $39. Available September 15th, it's one of the new resources we're hoping good ol' Ern at William Carey Library will carry. That way, when anybody says, "How do I start encouraging my fellowship toward more outreach and missions?" we all can say, "Call 800-MISSION."

VIDEO LIBRARY from USCWM Finally, an entry-level missions course for the TV generation! From full-length feature fulms to insightful documentaries, Frontier Media has assembled a collection of the most entertaining missions videos available. VIDEO EDITING OFFER
From: John Blake <72774.1766@CompuServe.COM> ..I know there are many missionaries and church groups who want to promote their ministry, but are unable to afford to put a video program together. They even have video footage but editing costs are too expensive. So I want to offer my digital editing suite to any missionary or ministry related project for only $25 per hour! ...This fee would include graphics and Titling. My computerized equipment edits SVHS and Hi-8 with no loss of quality because the editing is done digitally! ...I would also be happy to offer my services as a consultant, producer, director, writer, or videographer - also at reasonable prices, but not as low as the editing suite! Because I'm a missions pastor, I have a full program at my church, but I believe video is a vital tool for getting the word out, so I'd be delighted to help people do that. I've been in the video business for over 30 years... Contact me through my email address. (72774.1766@compuserve.com or JohnBlake@Juno.com) or phone me at (206) 745-4206 or 1-800-981-6700.

TRAGEDY IN SUDAN
Sudan has one of the highest populations of priority unreached peoples of all the countries in the world. This new video from VOM has stunning footage on the Islamic regime that is persecuting the Christians in Sudan, as well as a heart-rending view into the lives of the Christians who have been devastated. The tag at the end of the video about the Christian relief network that VOM is assisting was not enough to erase the horror in my mind after I watched it. There are some violent images on this video which require discretion in choosing your audience, but I believe that it should be shown to our churches to wake them up to the reality of what's going on in Sudan. $15 (VOM has a policy of not charging for the video if you show it to a group of people.) plus $3 About 10 minutes long.

WEF

BREAKING THE SILENCE-PERSECUTED CHURCH I just saw a copy of this half-hour video produced by WEF for the Sept'96 Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. It is NOT dated, so you can still order copies to develop awareness within your circle of influence. The video primarily consists of footage of well-known American Christian leaders giving brief calls to action on behalf of the persecuted church. The footage on persecution is minimal and not very intense. The video strongly encourages prayer and political activism as responses. One part seemed corny when Max Lucado, did a video interview with Michael Horowitz, and Josh McDowell, but overall the quality is high. Contact 708-668-0440 for a copy.

to establish links with Christians or other mission agencies. The
folks behind the website have an office at the US Centre for World

For more information contact us at: ywam.deaf.min@dawnt.com
Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Deaf Ministries provides opportunities for
Deaf and Hearing to reach out to people in the world who have little
opportunity to know the Gospel.
"Blindness separates people from things; deafness separates people from
people." -Helen Keller
We believe that God created people for relationships. He created men and
women to have a relationship with Him and with others around them. These relationships are essential to finding fulfillment and purpose. A
relationship with God is essential to eternal life.
Many will not have the opportunity to know Him because they will not
"hear" the Gospel in the conventional way. Jesus died that ALL may come
to know Him.
The Church of Jesus Christ is often referred to as sheep or a flock.
Jesus said, "I have other sheep which are not yet in the fold. I must
also bring them."
The Deaf are the 4th largest unreached people group in the world.

ADOPTION GUIDANCE SOURCES (Smith)

How Can My Church Learn About "Adopting" a People Group?

1. YOUR DENOMINATION: If you belong to a denomination, check first to see
if they have an "Adoption" program. If they do, start there. This will save
you some trouble for the leaders and members of church to accept adoption
as a worthwhile pursuit!

2. AD2000 and Beyond Movement: Tracks which unreached people groups on the
Joshua Project 2000 list have been adopted or targeted by churches and
mission agencies. AD2000 also has an Adoption Guidance Program & Mission
Resource Kit on the web and CD-ROM-recently updated and highly recommended!
2860 S Circle Dr Suite 2112, Colorado Springs CO 80906, 719-576-2000,
info@ad2000.org, <www.ad2000.org>;.

3. ADOPT-A-PEOPLE CAMPAIGN: Has a helpful packet of information on adopting
an unreached people group. Part of the US Center for World Mission, which
is also home to dozens of mission organizations (including the William
Carey Library). US Center for World Mission, 1605 Elizabeth St, Pasadena CA
91104, 818-398-2200, aap.campaign@uscwm.org, www.uscwm.org.

The following resources are available from the William Carey Library
(1-800- MISSION):
* Adoption: A Practical Guide to Successfully Adopting an Unreached People
Group, Bruce Camp, editor, USCWM Mobilization Division, 1993, manual, 52
pp. This manual gives practical steps for incorporating your adopted people
group into the life of your church and contains the nuts and bolts
information your church will need to help reach your adopted people.
* Doing Your Bit. Adopt-A-People introductory video, 1991, 9 minutes. This
video is not only great for showing what Adopt-A-People is and how it
works, but also explains why people groups, rather than countries, are our
church planting target.

4. ADOPT-A-PEOPLE CLEARINGHOUSE: A clearinghouse for unreached people group
adoption information. Can give helpful information and ideas on adoption.
People group profiles for sale. PO Box 17490, Colorado Springs CO 80935,
719-574-7001, aapc@xc.org. The "Campaign" and the "Clearinghouse" are
offering joint training for agency UPG adoption coordinators, May 99 in
Colorado and October 99 on the East Coast.

5. ACMC: Advancing Churches in Missions Commitment (formerly, "Association
of Church Mission Committees") is a network of missions-active churches
through which your church can get specific, practical assistance tailored
to your church's global outreach needs. ACMC will help you mobilize your
congregation, build vision, and help you become strategically involved in
world evangelization. Conferences, vision seminars, regional staff all very
helpful. Also publish and distribute a wide variety of resources. PO Box
ACMC Wheaton IL 60189, 800-798-ACMC.

6. THE ANTIOCH NETWORK: A fellowship of local churches which share ideas
and strategies for initiating church-planting movements among unreached
people groups. Annual Gatherings (August/September) are an excellent place
for churches to learn and network with others interested in the same part
of the world. 5060 N 19th Ave #312, Phoenix AZ 85015, 602-242-4414,
antiochnetwork@xc.org, <www.antiochnetwork.org>;.

7. AIMS: Accelerating International Mission Strategies is a ministry that
encourages, trains, mobilizes, networks and facilitates the world-wide
community of churches, agencies, other organizations and individuals for
strategic global evangelization. AIMS currently has 10 alliances, seven of
them focused on the 10/40 Window. AIMS offers seminars that focus on
training to become more missions minded and a new seminar whose focus is on
prayer and how to better pray for the unreached peoples of the world. PO
Box 64534, Virginia Beach VA 23467, (757) 226-5850, aims@aims-usa.org,
<www.aims.org>;.

8. CALEB PROJECT: Caleb Project staff are knowledgeable and well-connected
in the larger missions community and serve the Church in taking her part in
the Great Commission. Ministries include speaking and teaching, publishing
books and videos, research and advocacy for specific peoples. 10 W Dry
Creek Circle, Littleton CO 80120, 303-730-4170, info@cproject.com,
<www.calebproject.org>;.

Caleb Project has a 30-minute video on adopting unreached people groups,
called Ordinary People / Extraordinary Love: Building the Kingdom of God
Through Adopting Unreached Peoples. Co-produced with the AD2000 & Beyond
Movement, this video profiles churches which have adopted unreached peoples
and how God has used them. CP also offers Keys to the Nations: Articles to
Inform, Guide, and Equip Advocates for the Unreached (1998), a 250+ page
notebook with more than 100 articles covering a broad range of issues
related to understanding unreached peoples, establishing effective
partnerships, facilitating people-group adoptions, maintaining security,
and fundraising.

9. INTERDEV / Strategic Evangelism Partnerships: Don't make plans without
linking to existing field workers and partnerships! To learn if there is a
strategic evangelism partnership for your people group or their region
contact Interdev, PO Box 3883, Seattle WA 98103, (206) 775-8330, fax (206)

this SIM site are its up-to-date links to other mission sites on the web
and e-mail addresses for mission agencies.

6. Fingertip's Mission Opportunities Database <www.netaccess.on.ca/~sma>;.

have an interest. [I think this has been changed to the EFC Task Force for
Global Mission at http://www.globalmission.org/megamenu.htm ~N.W.]

7. Lonely Planet Travel Guide <www.lonelyplanet.com>;. Fascinating reports
from tourists and advice for travelers going to all corners of the earth,
plus pictures, make this website valuable for information gathering.

8. National Geographic Online <www.nationalgeographic.com/media/ngm>;.
Although the website is not very complete, what it is has is quite helpful.
Also see if your local school or library has the CD-ROM with National
Geographic's complete archives!

9. For headier stuff, try GMI's Mission Research Web Sites List
<www.gmi.org/research/websites.htm>; and Create International's Worldview
Research Tool-Kit <www.iinet.net.au/~createit/>;.

including information on alternate names, number of speakers, location,
dialects, related languages, and related information.

Mission Board has extensive missions information, including the Integrated
Strategic Planning Database, Global Evangelization Model, Status of Global
Evangelization, Annual Report, and Strategy Studies at
<www.imb.org/missionaries/people_groups.htm>;.

12. The Jesus Film language list. Find out if this important tools is
available in your favorite people's language at <www.jesusfilm.org/>;. Check
Gospel Recordings, too: <members.aol.com/GloReNet/>.

13. Go to the web direct! Type in the name of the people group, country,
city, or language into your favorite browser and see where it takes you!
The homepage of your online service provider or browser may also include
travel, news, or educational links that can help you.

Important Notes:
* Don't be lazy; verify what you find on the Internet! The web is a great
source of misinformation. Make phone calls and look for real live people
who know about your people group and can help you evaluate what you find.
* Also, for those of you writing papers, we know it's very easy to
plagiarize off the web. That's theft. Don't do it! Use quotations marks
when appropriate, and always cite your sources.

CHECK YOUR LIBRARY FOR THESE FAVORITE SECULAR PUBLICATIONS:

> National Geographic > Asia Week
> Aramco World Magazine > Encyclopedia Britannica

TIPS ON GETTING INTRODUCTIONS (SMITH)`
* Volunteer as much information as possible, in order to motivate and
assist the networker as they try to help you. They need to know what you
want and why, what you've found, and who you've talked to.
* Avoid requests like, "I'm trying to learn about the xxxxx people. Please
send me all your information." Understand that you might not be given names
and contact information, instead requested to leave your name and contact
information for the networker to pass along.
* Aim for personal contact, not just information. A phone call is often
more effective in building trust and facilitating the flow of information
than an e-mail. Face to face contact is best. However, respect the time of
the person helping you and be willing to wait.
* Respect privacy and security concerns. Don't send e-mail with missions
language to those in sensitive fields. If you have any doubts write a short
non-threatening note first to find out. Accept referrals to someone with
whom you might be able to discuss your interest more openly. Make sure you
know what can be published or passed on, and what can't.
* Communicate respect for the other person's time and priorities. Be
careful not to give the impression that you expect your new friend to drop
everything else for your schedule. Those living overseas, especially, may
not get back to you for weeks or months. Ask them if there is someone else
you should contact instead.
* Be sensitive to levels of credibility. Those who track information and
networks for the whole world may lack credible information on your area of
the world; try to find regional experts rather than global ones.
Unfortunately, the most knowledgeable people may be least available, and
the most available people, the least knowledgeable. Cultivate grace and
patience. Expect to find some misinformation.
